Formed in 2006, VIDA is a nonprofit organization, guided by a Board of Directors representing the 12 Presbyterian churches in Shawnee County, other Topeka congregations, community leaders, and representatives of the Latino community.
Purpose – In partnership with Topeka’s Latino communities, VIDA responds to their needs in ways that strengthen community, facilitate integration, and create lasting relationships.
Mission Statement – The VIDA ministry is based on relationships with our Latino neighbors. In partnership with the Latino communities, we seek to be sensitive and responsive to the issues they face. With guidance from the Holy Spirit, we will proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our ministry.
Goals • Provide a welcoming presence that builds community and increases understanding of cultural traditions. • Facilitate transition into the Topeka community through support services and personal relationships. • Conduct ESL and other classes for adults that improve employment opportunities and quality of life. • Offer educational programs for children, including tutoring, nursery, and summer activities. • Address family and individual spiritual needs through spiritual care.
